The Wood Education and Resource Center of Princeton, West Virginia is hosting together with the NCSU Wood Products Extension the National Firewood Workshop at the Cooperative Extension Office in Statesville, North Carolina on April 27th, 2017.  This one day event is a gathering of split firewood professionals that discuss all the aspects involved in operating a profitable firewood manufacturing business.

This workshop has been held twice in West Virginia at the Wood Education and Resource Center, at the Albany County Cooperative Extension Office in Voorheesville, New York, and at the Western Maryland Research and Resource Center in Keedysville, Maryland.  In the future we hope to host the National Firewood Workshop in the Great Lakes Region.

The National Firewood Workshop focuses on the important elements important to operating a profitable firewood business, including-

  • Log sourcing from rural and urban forests

  • Splitter and firewood processing equipment

  • Insect and quarantines

  • Marketing of firewood

  • Business management

  • Firewood dry kilns and seasoning methods

We typically have attendees from these groups-

  • Landowners

  • Foresters

  • Loggers

  • Firewood businesses

  • Equipment dealers and manufacturers

  • Firewood buyers and brokers

  • Education

We expect to have 150 attendees and will be offering a wide variety of equipment demonstrations of firewood production equipment.

The cost to attend is $30 per person and we will offer advance registration.  Do not plan to pay at the door as we will not be able to plan for your attendance.  Our lunch will be a buffet style local pork and barbeque chicken menu.

We will be offering payment for registration later online using the NCSU Forestry Extension website link above.  Paying by check is also available.
